Mathura Vrindavan MapMathura is of the seven most holy places for Hindus in India, reputedly being the birth place of Krishna. of the Sapta Mahapuris, it was ruled in by the kings of Solar & Lunar dynasties. The Jama Masjid was built by Abo-inNabir-Khan in 1661 & the mosque has four lofty minarets, with bright coloured plaster mosaic of which a few panels currently exist. Vishram Ghat is the place where Lord Krishna is believed to have rested after slaying the tyrant Kansa.

Built in 1814, Dwarkadheesh Temple is the main temple in the town. In the coursework of the festive days of Holi, Janmashthami and Diwali, it is decorated on a grandiose scale.

North of Mathura on the same bank of Yamuna, is Vrindavan, very as closely associated with Krishna as Mathura itself. Vrindavan is believed to have been the stage on which Krishna performed his famous romantic & sportive roles. There's hundred of shrines in the town, numerous ghats & several sacred tanks. The most famous as well as the finest temple in Vrindavan is that of Govinda Deva, dating from 1590. It is a sizable vaulted building of red sandstone.
