Khimsar
Khimsar MapKhimsar is part of the Nagaur District that is located between Bikaner & Jodhpur & provides an excellent beginning point for exploring the District of Naguar. The desert village of Khimsar, with its rugged landscape & miles of sandy desert, offers an fascinating insight in to the rural life of the desert people & exudes rustic charm. The elderly city has plenty of mosques, of which was commissioned by Emperor Akbar. Each year the region hosts the Nagaur Cattle Fair, which attracts thousands of tourists.

Khimsar is renowned for its spectacular fort, with its battle-scarred walls & turrets, nestled on the fringe of the great Thar Desert. The preliminary construction of the Fort began in 1523 AD with the purpose of defending the Royal Family; it's undergone much renovation over the years, with the addition of a Ladies Wing in the 18th Century, when the Royal relatives took up residence there. The current owner Thakur Onkar Singh (who is the 17th direct descendant of Rao Karamsi, who built the fort) added a Regal Wing for himself, in the 1940’s.
