The friendly town of Keylong is the capital of the Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh. Sitting in the green Bhaga Valley, Keylong abounds in natural beauty with snow-capped peaks, undulating hills & lush green fields interspersed with streams. It is an ideal place for nature lovers with a lot of pleasant walks around the surrounding hills & the area also provides for adventure sports including rock climbing, mountaineering & skiing in the winter.

Its location on the Indo-Tibetan border means it displays a powerful Tibetan influence including numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Founded in the 12th century, the Kardang Monastery houses a giant, popular library with volumes of Buddhist scriptures whilst the 17th century Shashpur Monastery has numerous paintings depicting the history of 84 Buddhas.
Between the months of November and June the town is cut off from the remainder of the world due to heavy snowfall. In the work of summer regular buses go to Keylong from Manali and Leh.
